UsTrendy Store: A Haven for Indie Fashion Lovers and Designers

Share
A truly unique fashion community that supports up-and-coming indie fashion designers has emerged into the web-o-sphere known by many as UsTrendy. UsTrendy was really founded as a platform to help indie designers to break into the fashion industry. “I wanted to help the designers pursue their dreams and take them one step closer to realizing their dreams,” exclaimed Sam Sisakhti, the CEO and Founder of UsTrendy.

UsTrendy really started as Sam’s dream – “to democratize fashion and help indie designers and artists share their work with the world.” I had the opportunity to get to know more about Sam during our interview. He is a very genuine individual who really thrives on motivating others to pursue their dreams.

Currently, UsTrendy is home to thousands of designers and hundreds of thousands of indie fashion pieces and artistic works. Despite their size, UsTrendy is known for superior customer service and a huge passion for the UsTrendy cause. The UsTrendy team spends a significant part of each day working with indie designers. “I’m lucky to have such passionate people on my team.”

When I found out that customers had the decision power, I had to learn more! “I want to flatten the system and take the decision power out of select few hands and open up equal opportunity to all designers.” UsTrendy is built upon an open market system, meaning anyone can post their items for sale. Customers are then able to vote for which designs they want to see displayed in the store.

Not only does UsTrendy provide an outlet for many indie fashion designers, UsTrendy provides valuable resources which can be critical to the success to these designers. They have provided everything from funding to production, and even sending designers to major Fashion Weeks to have their own runways!

Recently, UsTrendy held a competition among indie designers on the site to have their very own runway show during London Fashion Week. “It’s an opportunity for young indie designers to be on the runway among the Armani’s of the fashion world,” said Sam.

The winner was designer Dee Dee. Be sure to visit her video diary of the experience here of her own runway so in London Fashion Week. Since winning the contest, Dee Dee has had national media coverage and the opportunity to network with buyers, major media outlets, and runway models. She really has a Cinderella story that she will remember for the rest of her life thanks to UsTrendy!

Each week, UsTrendy holds a new contest where indie designers submit designs and each one is rated. At the end of the week, the winner walks away with an extra $100 cash and a whole lot of exposure!

UsTrendy was also founded on the principle of giving back to the community. UsAwareness is the non-profit side of UsTrendy. “Much like our customers decide on which designers we feature, our customers submit different causes and vote on the cause that receives our donation.”

A new site is currently in the works for UsTrendy, but you can test some of the new applications coming now – like the Fashion Showdown – where the top rated items compete head-to-head for number one. “We are adding an interactive experience for our users,” explained Sam, “we don’t want you to just rate an item anymore, we want you share the reasons why you like an outfit or what you would wear with a certain piece.”

For all of my up-and-coming fashion designers, models, and artists, I encourage you to join UsTrendy, “Where Today’s Inspiration is Tomorrow’s Trend.” Who knows, you could be their next designer landing a gig at a Major Fashion Week, having your designs funded and produced, or featured in their “Behind the Seams” column!

You have the power to decide your own fashion - why don't you start now!  Go ahead, comment below on what items you love on UsTrendy on why they are so fabulous!

Ask the Expert: Maggie Kopf of Square One Interior Design

Share
Originally, when I decided to focus on an Interior Designer for our next Ask the Expert column, I knew I would be inspired to “redecorate” with my Spring cleaning. Little did I know that I would fall in love with our Interior Designer’s portfolio! I grew up near Pittsburgh, Pa, so naturally when a friend of mine referred me to a fellow Pittsburgher as our featured expert I had to dig a little deeper! I checked out http://www.squareone-id.com/ and instantly gravitated towards Maggie’s gorgeous work! She not only has a knack for finding just the right ingredients to fill a space, but Maggie has the ability to create a customized room full of personality that just begs to be the host to a fabulous evening!

Here are your toughest questions about Interior Design answered by our Expert Maggie Kopf of Square One Interior Design.  Enjoy!

Q. How do I choose an Interior Decorator?

A. Working with an interior decorator is a personal experience, so not only is it important to consider his or her portfolio, but you also need to hire someone you feel comfortable with. You are letting this person into your bedroom, bathroom, etc., so you need to like your decorator.

It is always good to get a referral. If you know someone who recently completed a renovation or redecoration, ask whom they used. If you interview designers, ask them for references. Find out from their past clients if the process went smoothly and if they are happy with the end result. Word of mouth is an excellent resource!

Any designer should work with you to achieve your desired look, but many designers become known for a specific style. If you are a minimalist, you probably shouldn't hire "The Prince of Chintz."

There are other considerations: does your budget work with this particular design firm? Is the designer available to give you the attention you require?

Lastly, If you want someone with a formal design education, you can look for designers through ASID (www.asid.org).

Q. How can I hide all of the cords to my electronics?

A. There are a few different products to hide unsightly cords. If it is just a matter of keeping five cords and a power strip organized and untangled, there are cord organizers you can get at a hardware store. I have used trash bag ties to hold cords together after I coil them neatly. In this case, they may be able to tuck between the desk and wall and stay out of sight.

If you are trying to hide cords that run across the floor, there are products that are more substantial. There are cord protectors in a variety of lengths and range from light to heavy duty. These can be rather industrial looking which may or may not work with the decor.

I have cut small holes in rugs so a cord can run underneath it. (Technically I slice it with a razor.) It is not ideal, but if you do this and place a piece of furniture over it, it’s an okay solution.

This question brings up a good point: it is best to have a sense of the furniture plan when working on the electrical plan. This is not always realistic; but if possible, it is worth the extra planning initially so that floor outlets, wall outlets, and junction boxes can go in accordingly.

Q. What is the best color to paint a bedroom?

A. There is not necessarily a good or bad color for a bedroom. Color evokes a certain feeling. Do you want a serene bedroom? A bold statement? Cozy? I worked on a project where we used silver metallic wallpaper in the bedroom. People wondered if it was too “cold” for a bedroom. It wasn’t; it was beautiful and sophisticated (and published in Architectural Digest). If you decide you want a cheery, fresh-looking room, you can’t go wrong with blue walls, white trim, and white linens.

Q. I’m trying to decorate my apartment with an international theme. Do you have any suggestions of decor?

A. A lot of commonly used design styles comes from overseas: French country, Scandinavian. You are probably looking for something that stands out a little more, in which case you could look further East. While Japanese design is often neutral and subdued with clean lines, much of the furniture from Asia has ornate detailing and is paired with bold colors. There are wonderful styles from Morocco which incorporate bright colors. Add Mexican tile, lay down a Pakistani rug. There are endless choices, so editing is important. A lot of Asian seating is low which lets your eye go to the architectural detailing. Allow the craftsmanship to stand out, but don’t worry too much about matching styles. Certainly there are times when pieces don’t work together, but an eclectic mix is one of my favorite styles.

Q. A friend of mine recommended trying a traditional style for my living room. What is the meaning of a “Traditional” dĂ©cor?

A. Traditional decor is a broad term, but it generally refers to styles that influenced American and British design over the past few centuries. There were many different periods, each a reaction to the one before. Georgian architecture was a reaction to Baroque, the Arts and Crafts movement followed Victorian style. Furniture styles mimic the architecture, so if you want to incorporate some traditional furniture, there are also many sub-categories. That said, some choices are more obviously traditional than others. I would look for scrolled arms on upholstery, cabriole legs on tables or occasional chairs. Use fabric. Have a table skirt made or add a valence to window treatments. The lines get blurred, so it’s really how you put everything together. Shaker furniture, which is very simple, can work well in a modern home. The Art Nouveau style, with its curves and color, could go either way depending on the rest of the decor.

Q. Is it ok to use both brown and black furniture in the same room?

A.  Yes. I like a mixture of stains and paint. I would put black chairs around a stained wood table, and I would put a painted black armoire in a room with a brown stained coffee table. It will depend on what you’re trying to achieve. If everything is more or less monochromatic and you add one black piece, you are drawing attention to that piece. That might be your intention, but if it’s a nondescript end table, for example, you probably don’t want it to stand out.

Q. My hardwood floors and kitchen cabinets are a lighter shade of wood. Do I have to get a lighter wood for my kitchen table?

A.  No, you do not have to match your kitchen table with the floors and cabinetry. Particularly since the table is a freestanding piece, it makes sense that it would be different. It might be a good idea to make it significantly darker than the rest of the wood. I’d prefer to see an intended contrast rather than a near miss, and it may be difficult to match the existing wood perfectly.

Q. My living room and dining room do not have a wall separating them. How can I add more separation between the two?

A. You could do a few different things depending on how much separation you would like. For a significant change, you could add a partition, perhaps with rice paper to allow some light to come through. This would be an installed, fixed solution. You could also get a freestanding screen which can range in style from a highly decorative chinoiserie design to a natural, partially open look with wicker, rattan, or bamboo. Another idea is to add a track along the ceiling and create a fabric curtain. This could be dramatic with a heavy velvet or soft with a semi-opaque linen. For a subtle separation, you can create distinct zones with the furniture layout and area rugs.

Q. What is the best way to make a small space appear larger?

A. Light colors tend to make a room feel more open, and it can help to keep the decor monochromatic. Paint the floor a high-gloss white. Play with scale. You do not have to use small furniture. In fact, fewer items that are a comfortable size is preferable than trying to squeeze in more pieces. If you have a small bedroom, you could have a bed, one nightstand with a substantial lamp, one upholstered chair, and a big mirror on one wall. If you can, try not to push the furniture right up against the wall; a little breathing room will help things feel more spacious too.

Q. In my apartment, there is a spiral black staircase that leads up to my bedroom loft. Is there a way to decorate this staircase, so it will match my classic motif?

A. You could have it painted, but you need to choose the proper paint and make sure the staircase is primed correctly. I imagine the staircase is metal, so it needs to have the oil and dirt removed before it’s painted, and then be sure to get a quality, direct-to-metal paint which will not flake or peel. If you paint the staircase white or whatever your trim color is, it will blend in much more. There are some talented faux finishers out there, so another idea is to have it look like a wood railing through faux finishing. I would, however, consider the shape of the railing before I did this. How thick is the railing? It might not look right in “wood” if the rail is too thin.

Ask the Expert: Doc from Magic of Mixology

Share
Over the past few days, fashionistas from all over the world submitted questions for our "Doc of Mixology."  Below are some great solutions that answer some of your bartender woes.

Q. I'm hosting a get together with some of the women I work with next week. What would be a great signature drink to serve that will make me the talk of our cubicles?

A. The key to a great party drink is the balance between simplicity and uniqueness. You don’t want to spend a lot of time having to prepare the drinks, or worse yet stand there continuously making them while all your girlfriends are having a great time. You want to be the host, but you also want to participate. Nothing is worse than missing your own party. I recommend drinks that you can make in a batch before hand, and then have a self serve station where they can make their own. The nice part about a self serve station is that you can have a signature drink item, but then also have ingredients where they can make their own. Be as creative as you wish with this, as the season’s change, so should your drink ideas. Here is one that is a guaranteed hit and will make you the talk of the cubicles (for the right reason).

X- Rated Cosmo:

1.5 oz X- Rated Vodka

1 oz Pama Pomegranate Liqueur

.5 White Cranberry Juice

Garnish with a raspberry and sugar rim

So in this case you can premix the Vodka, Pomegranate, and Cranberry Juice. If you want to make an entire batch with a 750ml of X-Rated, then use approximately 2/3 of a bottle of Pama, and half of a bottle of cranberry juice. This is a martini, so it should be pretty strong… but with the flavors you will never know it and should make for some interesting conversations. You can also prep the glasses by buying a pack of plastic martini glasses from any party store. Now the key to rimming a plastic glass is taking an orange and squeezing it directly into the sugar. This will make an extremely stick solution, rim the glasses with the mixture then place them in a freezer to harden.

To make it fun, put out ice in a nice bucket with a shaker and allow them to “make” their own drinks. You can also put out raspberries as a garnish and for an extra kick, provide a bottle of champagne. This will allow the ladies who may not be drinkers to enjoy a beverage as well. They can also mix up a little cocktail with the Champagne and top it with the raspberry liqueur and a raspberry!

Q. When I go out with someone for the first time, I like to order a really fabulous drink. Unfortunately about the only thing I can come up with is a Cosmo. What's a great cocktail that I can order that will impress my date?

A. Dear reader concerned with what other people think about her,

This is a ridiculous question. What a person orders means nothing about who they are. True, if I am meeting with a client and they order a pina colada with extra whipped cream and an umbrella, it will raise some questions in the back of my mind. But as for you only ordering a cosmo and wanting something different, I don’t have an answer. I can tell you to order a Perfect Manhattan with Booker’s which will make you look “fabulous”… unfortunately you will most likely choke on the first sip which would not be “fabulous”. If you like cosmos, stick with them or drinks like them. This way if you try one, you may not like it, but it won’t be so different that you can’t even force it down (like the smile you most likely will fake during that first date). Try specific vodkas, flavors, or twists. Instead of ordering a “Cosmo”, try a “Square One Cosmo with a Champagne Float”. Same drink as you always order, but by specifying you are taking it to a whole new level.

Q. Is organic liquor really any different?

A. It depends on who you ask. I am a huge fan of everything organic, I feel like additives take away from the taste and development of any product whether it be food or drink. There are some facts about organic alcohol that I can state without being biased. Most people who try organic wine, beer, or liquor say that the taste is purer, cleaner, and crisper. The only thing you want to watch are how they are flavored… by true infusion or with flavorings. This can be the difference between a crisp, fresh taste and a feeling like you are drinking a bath and body works hand lotion. The true difference is that organic beverage base (grapes, barley, hops, apples) used in the fermentation process do not use toxic insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers. So it is a healthier choice, leaving unnatural chemicals out of your system and better for the environment too. The downside is that they are more expensive as most organic items are. I would recommend that you occasionally try an organic beverage when the opportunity arises and see if you notice a taste difference.

Q. I just recently added a bar area to my terrace. I want to keep it stalked with all of the necessaries (you never know when you will be entertaining.) What do you recommend to keep my bar stocked up to par?
A. Keep it stocked with whatever you would want to drink. I know my bar, personally, at home is stocked like a wedding bar would be. I am sure to have a vodka, rum, tequila, bourbon, and selection of wines. From there you can build with liqueurs (I recommend starting with triple sec, peach schnapps and apple pucker). You also want to be sure to have non-alcoholic mixers such as juices and soda on hand. The number one most important thing though is ICE. I can’t count how many times I have been to a house where they are making drinks and no ice is available. That is the sign of a true cocktail novice.

The key is to have fun with the bar. It should be a place to relax with friends and family. Buy items that you enjoy and want to drink. If you love frozen drinks, make sure you have a blender. Make sure you have a shaker, a corkscrew, and a bottle opener. If you enjoy mojitos, keep some mint in the refrigerator. Glassware is an important item. If you truly are interested in having a working bar, you want to serve drinks in the correct glasses. This means martini glasses, wine glasses, chilled beer mugs, etc.

My recommendation is to observe when you are out in the bar scene. Instead of just staring at the bartender making your drink - check out behind the bar, brands that you like, bottles that stand out, barware and glassware that people use. Make your bar fit your personality. Finally, your bar needs people. If you spend too much time trying to make it a great bar, you are going to miss the entire point of having a place like it in your home.

Final Though:

When it comes to cocktails, it is all about fun. You shouldn’t stress about what to order or how to make your bar attractive. When it comes to hosting parties, think back to parties that you have had a blast at. What did you like about them? What stood out? Take those memories and make them your own. When it comes to ordering drinks, think about what you like, flavors you enjoy and create something from it. Chances are, the person you are out with has the same thoughts on their mind (unless you are out with me, in which case I apologize in advance). If you eat organic food for health reasons, then you should drink organic alcohol. If you are ordering it to look cool then just remember organic is more expensive when your tab comes at the end of the night and mixing organic vodka with red bull kind of defeats the purpose. If you have a bar in your home, it should be to host friends and family. Don’t become so consumed in the physical bar that you ignore the atmosphere it creates.

Beauty Secret: Simply Add Some Olive Oil In Your Beauty Routine

Share
By: Melissa Eaton

We all know that olive oil is wonderful and healthy for us to cook with, but what about its other uses? Truthfully, olive oil is another main ingredient in several beauty products you can buy on the shelf. See for yourself how you can make your own skin cocktails and save a little money at the same time.

1. A mixture of 1/2 cup olive oil, 1/4 cup vinegar, & 1/4 cup water used as a night cream will make your skin glow. The olive oil softens and moisturizes and the vinegar lightens discolorations, kills bacteria and loosens dead skin cells. Splash water on your face before applying.

2. Olive oil can be used as cleansing cream if your skin is dry.

3. For a facial, wet face thoroughly, then massage olive oil into your skin. Use about a half teaspoon of sugar and scrub your face with that, then wipe off gently with a warm, wet cloth until the sugar is all gone.

4. Use olive oil on your feet with clean white cotton socks. Helps to soften up you feet and it absorbs better than baby oil.

5. It seems when you pour olive oil out there is always a drip, so wipe it up with your hand and rub it in to your elbows. Wonderful softening properties.

6. Use olive oil as bath oil. Two to three tablespoons will do the trick.

7. Use olive oil for your hair. Not only does it condition, but it also gets rid of the frizz. Put a small drop into your palm & then rub both hands together & apply it to dry hair.

Just a few of the many creative uses for olive oil in your skin care routine. Not only is it cheap, but it will go alot further than most products you can buy. Have fun and be creative.

The Daily Fashionistas Tremendous Ten Fashion Websites: Winter 2010

Share
Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to get to know a few very remarkable fashionistas. Many submissions came rolling in for our Top 10 Fashion Websites which made the selection process pretty tough!

Each submission needed to pass the most important question before making it into the second round – will the Daily Fashionistas readers benefit from the discovery of this website? You are the number one priority – I want to provide products, designs, and blogs that would captivate the interest of you!  I am confident you will enjoy these fabulous websites as much as the Daily Fashionistas.

Another fabulous characteristic of our Tremendous Ten worth mentioning is that each one of these amazing websites participate in charitable activities on various local and national levels! These websites deserve a round of applause for appreciating the world around them and caring to give back!

I want to congratulate each member of our top 10. These brave women have had the courage to pursue their dreams and expose their creativity through unique collections, thoughts, and designs!

Without further a due the Daily Fashionistas Top 10 Fashion Websites:

1. Francesca Belluomini Creations (http://www.etsy.com/shop/francescabelluomini )

The world of jewelry changed three years ago with Francesca Belluomini began designing her own collections. It all began with a turquoise rosary which is now available in her Classics collection.

Her story started much like other true fashionistas. “I always found joy in transforming a simple piece like a white tee into something unique with adding a scarf or a pin. When I could not find anything, I would make it,” explained Francesca.

Her fashion sense is a heritage she’s had since coming into this world. As a child, Francesca worked with her great-grandmother’s excess fabrics to create her own fabulous ensembles for her dolls.

She describes her creations as “unpretentious, effortless, and chic.”

If you’re looking for a unique item, check out her Vintage collection. “They are reinterpretations of charms, necklaces, accessories, findings, haberdasheries collected through the years.”

Francesca Belluomini Creations captured our number one spot for many reasons. Her uniqueness and one rule of creation were major decision makers. “I never use metals (gold, silver, findings, clasps, manmade crystals) unless recycle them for the Vintage pieces. So everything has to go through the head or the wrist either slipping it or wrapping it with a ribbon or some sort of fabric.”

*Fashion Alert: Daily Fashionistas and Francesca Belluomini are teaming up very soon for a special giveaway just for the readers of Daily Fashionsitas!

2. Swap Top Shoes (http://www.swaptopshoes.com/ )

Swap Top Shoes can be described in three words. “Genius, travel, and convenience,” Marta Eleniak simply stated.
As a fashionista, it can be a pain to prepare for any vacation. Not only do you have to limit your wardrobe choices, you have to carry all of the beautiful clothes and shoes with you in heavy luggage. “It’s a real pain but not anymore!”

November 2009 will have forever changed the world of women’s footwear. With the creation of Swap Top Shoes, you have an unlimited amount of shoes at your fingertips with just the simple used of interchangeable tops!

Fashion has been a part of Marta’s existence since she was a young teen. “My bedroom wall was full of collages of magazine cuttings of catwalk looks.”

Marta was so inspired by fashion icon Ines De La Fressange that she legally changed her middle name to Ines at age 18. “In the 80s she was not only 'Model of the Year' but the first model to sign an exclusive contract, with Chanel no less.”

Currently, the Anastasias are the hottest item, and with their five-inch-gladiator heel and the zebra-cowhide-gladiator top, we are not surprised!

3. Repeat Possessions (http://www.repeatpossessions.com/ )

It all started with some Harajuku Handbags, and Andrea Bridges began an incredible journey to creating RepeatPossessions.com. Andrea’s always had a love for clothes, but like many fashionistas, the challenge was finding fashionable clothes with the right fit. “I have found it now with the !iT Jeans that are built for different woman’s bodies along with the Niki Biki that has a perfect fit, always!”

“The Niki Biki Apparel is all one-size-fits-all and makes you look and feel good. It’s a staple everyone should have in their wardrobe. “

While getting to know Andrea, she has an extraordinary ability to make you feel like her number one! Her customer service is just impeccable! She always wants her customers to look amazing. “Now, when a mom comes to me and finds my items make her ‘come alive’ …that’s the best.”

Traditionally clothing stores are geared towards only a certain age – not Repeat Possessions! “It’s amazing how these fashionable items can cross over to generation to generation.”

Recently, Andrea participated in the Grammy Gifting Suite with host Ryan Seacrest and KIIS. “The celebs are loving my products and will be photographed in them shortly….I am getting great responses from them all!”

The Repeat Possessions’ Niki Biki line offers over 75 colors of camisoles, but remember Niki Biki carries more than just camis! At the moment, Andrea’s favorite item is the Niki Biki 2 Button Cardigan.

4. Taigan (http://www.taigan.com/ )

Taigan members and shops are truly incredible. Each shop included on Taigan is hand selected from all over the world. “We like to think that we seek and bring back the very best for our shoppers/members.” In fact, the Taigan team is so selective; they added a shop before it was named the number one barber shop in America by GQ!

There are few words that capture the essence of Taigan. Cureated, intelligent, and stylish are just a few that begin to describe the one-of-a-kind experience.

Shopping online for clothing and accessories can be difficult at times. You never really know exactly the way an item will fit or look with another item. With the addition of video, Taigan has enhanced the shopping experience. It’s now possible to preview how two (or more) items will wear together!

Now, what exactly is a Taigan? I will let the Taigan team explain.

“A Taigan is one of rarest sight hound breeds in the world, hunting by sight and speed in the remote mountainous regions of central Asia. Considered a national treasure in Kyrgyzstan and celebrated in legends for more than 1000 years, the breed is never sold- only given as a gift to friends and family. Very discerning and able to understand what kind of game is preferred by its owner, the Taigan is intelligent, swift, tireless, and tenacious in pursuing its master’s desires. “

Taigan offers a unique outlet for shoppers. “Taigan shoppers are a distinct breed who wants to access the remarkable, they do not seek to find more of the same, and they want special and one-of-a-kind finds.” Each shop carried either one of a kind items or a limited supply of each item. “They want to deliver their signature collection and customer service to a highly selective audience.”

Fabulous things have always held the interest of the Taigan team, “from fashion to art to travel and beyond, we truly value that which is unique and special.”

6. The Counter Corps (http://www.thecountercorps.com/
Carolyn’s vision is clear. She has a focus on “the individual, art, and humanity.” As a self-taught designer, she began creating custom pieces 14 years ago for various fashion shows, art exhibitions, commissioned work, and her own wear as A La Mode A La Mort. In late November 2009, theCOUNTERcorps was launched.

In the beginning, her inspiration was “an anti-corset caricature from the late 1800's.” Now, Carolyn is inspired by “fashion-mavens” who express their individuality and reach new levels with their fashion risks.

Her fashion interest developed in search of a new pair of pants back in the third grade. “My mom sewed and had a lot of excess fabric. I went to her sewing room, selected the fabric I wanted, put it on the floor, lay my body on top of it and traced my legs. I made a top and bottom layer and stapled them together, thinking if I folded them inside out to hide the staples, I'd have a new pair of pants. When my craft project was complete, I tried to put them on; they didn't fit further than my calves.”

After looking at her newest collection, Carolyn has discovered many ways to incorporate unique and one-of-a-kind accessories into everyday life!

It’s tough to choose one favorite out of the new collection. “But if I had to pick one, a favorite piece for CeeCee (Women's) is the garter pouch. It's so Laura Croft/James Bond girl and there's something ever so sexy about it peaking out from the bottom of a dress or skirt,” said Carolyn.

As for the CeeC (Men's) collection, a top choice is the harness suspenders. “The sex appeal for every man I've seen put them on is turned up 1000 degrees.“

On February 28, Carolyn is hosting “Mimosa Sunday’s” to release her newest creations and offer fabulous deals. If you would like an invitation, make sure to sign up for her mailing list!

theCountercorps is “just the start of something much bigger in [her] dreams and heart!” Her mission is touching and inspirational:

challenge convention
cure commonality
cultivate conversation
connect community
curate consumption

8. Anique Michelle (http://www.aniquemichelle.com/ )
AniqueMichelle.com is proof that you don’t have to spend a small fortune to be a fashionista. Every fabulous piece online is priced under $60! Her collection is “stylish, unique, and affordable,” according to founder Anique Michelle.

Her concept began with “an amazing two-tone long necklace with fringe details in silver and gunmetal.” This piece is so unique that she has received compliments every wear!

After being a “fashion fanatic” her entire life, Anique was ready to take the leap into her own retail outlet in May 2009. “I strongly believe that looking great doesn't have to cost a fortune.”

As a girl from southern California, Anique is “influenced by the casual, comfortable way of life.” “Colors, textures, patterns and interesting details in clothing and accessories” are what draws her attention.

She strongly considers what else she has in her closet before purchasing a new item. “I love, love, love versatility in an item. For me an item should be able to be worn casually or dressed up and be easily incorporated into my wardrobe.”

This is evident in her stylish collection at AniqueMichelle.com. Many pieces are made to be incorporated into entire ensembles.

Even though all of her items are incredible, the Lady Bird Necklace, the Limeade Necklace, and the Iconic are this season’s must-have items.

Anique’s own inspiration is influenced by some of today’s most prestigious fashionistas, including one of our own personal favorites, Kelley Wearstler. Her other inspiring women include some of yesterday and today’s glamorous fashionistas like Kate Moss, Rachel Zoe, Ellen Barkin, and Cameron Diaz.

Not only is Anique an amazing fashionistas, but she has a big heart. In March, 50% of her profits will be donated to the Red Cross. “I am truly heartbroken for Haiti and I think that it is very important that the world continues to help the country rebuild. It is going to be a very long process for Haiti to recover and I hope that people don't forget the great tragedy they experienced.”

9. Once Upon A Belt (http://www.onceuponabelt.com/ )

According to founder, Marta Eleniak, it’s all about “style, confidence, and transformation” when you’re experiencing OnceUponABelt.com.

Fashionistas have a big investment in their wardrobe. One of the goals of Once Upon a Belt is to steer girls away from choosing cheap belts. “We want them to begin appreciating nice leather.” In fact, Once Upon a Belt was founded because “all I could find was cheap rubbish that looked like cheap rubbish or belts with so much bling they'd attract magpies.”

Make sure you check out the Tartan belts worn with a mac. While you’re at it, make sure you see the “transformation” of Marta while she models the belts! Her personality definitely shines through!

At the moment, the Obis are amazing! “You can wear them in so many different ways and they can save a shapeless dress you were going to throw out.”

The gorgeous suede obi belts available on Once Upon a Belt were handmade in the UK. “There's something about the richness in colors of suede that you don't get in leather. They look and feel like fabulous quality.”

Once Upon A Belt is in the middle of a Belt Shopping Spree. Be sure to check out their website for one of the largest collections of amazing belts available!
